The One Puck Short Podcast is jolted back in to life following a seismic week in the NHL during which P.K. Subban and Taylor Hall were traded while Steven Stamkos stayed in the sun.
In moving Seth Jones to Columbus, the Nashville Predators acquired the number one centre they have longed for by adding Ryan Johansen to their line up.
But some felt General Manager Dave Poile had moved the wrong defenceman, with team Captain Shea Weber their preferred worm to dangle before clubs such as the Blue Jackets, Edmonton and anyone else looking for a top defenceman to add to their ranks.
I admit, I was among them. But diving in to the murky world of cap recapture penalties and Poile’s reasons for holding on to the 30-year old blue liner may make more sense.
Nashville missed the play-offs for the second straight season last year, costing long time coach Barry Trotz his job.
Now with a new coach at the helm, and their star netminder healthy again, Nashville enters the new season full of hope.
But in a tough Division, do the Predators have enough to make it back to the post season?
With the puck set to drop on Saturday night, the
2012/2013 NHL season will finally (FINALLY!!!) get under way!
As is befitting of the quiet before the storm, everyone has their predictions for the coming season. Which teams will excel, who is in line for a break out year and which sorry souls will suffer at the foot of the standings.
